In the season of giving, we know that many NPs are inspired to give back. You give so much to your patients as you practice, but somehow you still give more. You inspire us! That’s why we want to pass this volunteer opportunity on to you, from our partners at Heart to Heart International.
Heart to Heart International (HHI) has committed to run an Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) 5 hours northeast of Monrovia. That commitment will span at least six months. Heart to Heart is looking for a few full time employees both providers and nurses that can commit to work in Liberia with periodic R&R breaks for 6 months.
Once the ETU is opened and the permanent staff in place we will be looking for some very specific types of volunteers. HHI will need physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nurses to work in the ETU. The commitment would be for a minimum of 6 weeks. That time includes travel time, a week of Ebola training run by International Medical Corps and four weeks working in the ETU.
Volunteers will be working in very harsh conditions so they must be healthy and in good physical shape. Weather is hot and humid. The ETU is an inpatient facility and will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There will be two 6-hour shifts during the day, and one 12-hour night shift. Volunteers must be willing to staff whatever shift they are assigned, and will work in full PPE Tyvek suits. HHI will provide all medical supplies and PPE for all staff. Expenses for travel, food and lodging will be covered by HHI.
